Our approach
There's more than one way to build.
Most programs for women founders are built to help you raise venture capital, and they do it well. For some women, that's exactly the right path. For many others, it never was. They're building profitable, self-owned businesses that don't need outside money, and that path has had far fewer places to call home. The SWELL is one of them.
You keep every share
We take no equity. You own one hundred percent of what you build. SURF has worked this way for seventeen years, and it's simply how we operate.
A place to work in person
A downtown home with coworking, event space, a podcast studio, and a gym. Somewhere to do the work and find your people face to face.
Built around your real life
Sessions in school hours. Kids welcome. Everything recorded. We design around caregiving from the start, because that's the reality for a lot of us.

The Female Founder Lab
$100 a monthEight to twelve women, twelve weeks, in person. You define what success means for you, and we help you build toward it. Caregiving-aware scheduling.
Stay & Build
$100 to $850 a monthDepending on if you want a coworking desk, dedicated desk, or a private office. For Female Founder Lab grads, the first month is free.
Sponsors and our Sound Startups partnership cover the cost of the lab. When you pay, you're paying for the space and the community, not tuition.

We focus on your goals, whatever they are. If raising capital turns out to be your path, we'll happily point you to the people who do that best.
AI is one of the things we teach, alongside the fundamentals. It's a tool, and we treat it like one.
Every session leaves you with something you can use, not just new contacts.
We work alongside the rest of Seattle's community, and we'll send you to them whenever they're the better fit.
